The idea for the LED Zeppelin came from Uriel Guy. As he was attending Burning Man 2014 and having his first steps in the world of LED art, he wanted to create a pun based LED installation for Burning Man. LED Zeppelin just presented itself as a solution.
Come 2020, Yair Cohen just moved out of NYC and into a lovely house right off the train. The first question asked was "Are we building an art car?". Once we had a space for our lunacy, the rest of the team was assembled and we were off on our way.
Two years later, including a slowdown due to the cancellation of Burning Man 2021, we have:
Bought a bus
Built a steel frame on top of it to hold everything
Attached a zeppelin shape made out of fiberglass poles, conduit and LED strips
Connected and secured everything using thousands of 3D printed parts
Built and manufactured our own LED Controllers (ask us, they are better than a lot of others on the market)
Built our own software stack for 3D mapped LED projects
Put it all together, successfully!
As of today the LED Zeppelin is living in Sparks, and plans to attend Burning Man as long as the team wants to take it there. It camps with Liminal Labs, and we love these people. Hope to see you all soon!
